Blog 6-Video Analysis

In this blog i will be analysing two of my chosen artists music videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Abk1jAONjw

"Just Dance" by Lady Gaga

Genre-Pop

Meaning and narrative-Again i believe that the main intention of this video is meant to be fun and bringing happiness to listeners. I think that many teenagers can relate to the music video as its all about getting ready to go out, partying, drinking and dancing etc.

Target Audience-Teenage girls mostly, aged between 13 and 21. I came to this conclusion of target audience because of the previous blog showing that magazine readerships and YouTube views are mainly aged between these ages and there's a high percentage of females rather than males. The people that would watch this video and listen to this song would be people who love to dance and go out to partys and have fun.

Representation-The genre of pop is shown through the colourful and playful scenes shown inside a house where everyone if dancing (a link to pop music=dancing). Also the way Lady Gaga is dressed in skimpy clothes and bright blonde long hair and her colourful and bold makeup.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bESGLojNYSo&ob=av2e "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga

Genre-Pop

Meaning and narrative- I think the main intention of this song is to be fun but the lyrics indicate that the song has a link to playing the card game poker and "hooking up" with a boy. This is shown through the scenes of people playing a poker game.

Target Audience-Teenage girls mostly, aged between 13-21.I came to this conclusion of target audience because of the previous blog showing that magazine readerships and YouTube views are mainly aged between these ages and there's a high percentage of females rather than males.

Representation-This genre is shown through the dancing scenes and the exciting and flamboyant outfits. The Video is very colourful which indicated happiness which is associated with pop music.

These two videos show us that one of her first hits "just dance" seems a much lower budgeted music video than one of their newer videos, for example "poker face". The video looks more professional as there are a variety of locations unlike "just dance" music video. This shows that Lady Gaga has grown with popularity and therefore has more money to spend on her work.

Blog 4-permission

This is the letter we sent to Lady Gaga's record company (INTERSCOPE) to ask permission to use her song... Copyright is important in the music industry because it means that other people cannot steal or use inappropriately and get credit for it. If copyright was not created, people may not be as willing to share there ideas in case it gets stolen.

Blog 3-Song choice

When choosing what song our group was going to choose we all agreed that it should be a song which has some emotional impact and the lyrics which were abstract so we could really put a variety of ideas together and try to have a video that the audience wanted to think about and imapct on. The first choice we came up with was to do a song called "fifteen" by Taylor Swift. However, we decided against this song as the lyrics were to transparent and told the story through the lyrics anyway so our music video would be strange because we had no room to change the lyrics and we would just be acting out the lyrics which doesn't show our creativity. In the end, we have decided to do a song called "Brown Eyes" by Lady Gaga. I think it was important that we choose an artist that we all were famillar with and new her style as this is what we had to include in some blogs and in our own music video. We chose this particular song because it was unusal for lady gaga's normal dance, fast beat songs but had something unique about it. The song has a slow beat and the song is all about love and heartbreak. As a group, we really thought that we could make a video that links into the lyrics and impacts the audience well. Lady Gaga, is an artist that has a strong and unique style surrounding her and thought we could use this to make our music video unique. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x1XT6GCD24 These are the lyrics- In your brown eyes, walked away In your brown eyes, couldn't stay In your brown eyes, you watch her go And turn the record on And wonder what went wrong What went wrong If everything was everything But everything is over Everything could be everything If only we were older Guess its just a silly song about you And how i lost you And your brown eyes In your brown eyes, i was feeling low 'cause they're brown eyes and you never know Got some brown eyes, but a soft face I knew that it was wrong So baby, turn the record on Play that song Where everything was everything But everything is over Everything could be everything If only we were older Guess its just a silly song about you And how i lost you And your brown eyes Everything was everything But baby its the last show Everything could be everything But it's time to say goodbye so Get your last fix, and your last hit Grab your old girl with her new tricks Honey yeah, it's no surprise I got lost in your brown eyes In your brown eyes Brown, brown eyes Your brown eyes Brown, brown eyes Got some brown eyes Brown, brown eyes
